Friday Post: Three Steps To Buck Naked

Time to whack up the central heating, Something Purty’s feeling frisky. Yup, this weekend we’re all about how to look lovely in the altogether. But because we know you’re not that kind of girl, we’ll take it slowly…and oh…what a pretty frock you’re wearing! Mark Fast?

Mark Fast's teeny-but-stretchy (and surprisingly flattering) knitwear, at,, and (any day now) on ASOS Marketplace

‘Those dresses are a lot stronger than they look,’ says Amanda May, Mark Fast’s Managing Director and general Girl Friday. ‘They’re made from thousands of stitches of elastomeric yarn so they take on your shape but also hold you in, like a corset.’ And Amanda should know, having been Fasted up to the nines even while pregnant with baby Violet, now seven months old. ‘I felt great – they’re surprisingly supportive.’ But fact is, you’re still showing a whole lot of skin in a frock like this, so what does she recommend for maximum body confidence?

Erbaviva Mommy To Be Milk Bath

‘I fell in love with bath salts when I was pregnant, particularly Erbaviva Mommy To Be Milk Bath (16.99). I still use them now – they’re brilliant on water retention and really softening. They feel quite detoxifying too, so I use them the evening before a night out rather than on the night itself.

‘I’m also a fan of shimmer, but only if it’s subtle. Crème De La Mer The Body Refiner (£77) has a heavenly smell and leaves a light veil behind  – just enough to make my skin look pearly.’ And because high fashion is down on hosiery this winter, Amanda also recommends pairing your frisky bit of knitwear with Guerlain Terracotta Huile Du Voyageur (£34). It’s a dry oil with bronze flecks that give your legs a bit of believable colour and glow.’

Ready to slip into something a little more comfortable? Over to Damaris Evans of utterly covetable underwear brands Damaris and Mimi Holliday

Fancy a bit of Mimi Holliday's Bisou Bisou? It's over at

Damaris Enticing Black Swarovski lingerie, from £94

Classic Black underwear makes me feel chic, smart, and sexy in a grown-up and womanly way,’ says Damaris. ‘If you’re wearing it for anyone in particular, remember that men sometimes seem a bit colour blind – they like bold tones and graphic lines. But whatever you choose make sure it’s comfortable. I use the softest lace that money can buy – it makes you feel amazing.’

Damaris recommends bras that boost you up from the sides rather than hoist-and-squish everything together at the front (go on, try her Enticing Black Swarovski Bra, over there on the left, £148). I t’s this kind of ‘lift’ that puts everything back where it was when you were twenty, she explains. She also recommends her Mimi Holliday hipster-style Classic Knickers (£32) or Boy Shorts (£39). ‘The hipsters have a 70’s shape that men seem to love, and the shorts have lace over the bottom so they’re more romantic than a plain thong.’

Chanel No5

And for skin that’s as soft as the French lace you’ll find on a set of Damaris lingerie? ‘I love the idea of scented body cream, but in reality I only want to smell the perfume I’m wearing  – always Chanel No5 Eau de Parfum (from £44) and the matching deodorant (£28). So I buy very simple and very hydrating body lotions from French pharmacy brands – usually Avène Cold Cream Body Lotion (£16.16), which is lovely and light and makes my skin feel gorgeous.’

For the final reveal, it’s over to make-up artist Ashley Ward, who (along with a pretty devastating gene pool) is responsible for the full glory of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the shot below. Something of a dish, no?

Probably doesn't eat biscuits. Not even spelt ones.

Shiffa Sweetness Body Lotion

‘A little love goes a long way when you’re about to strip off,’ says Ashley, who’s a dab-hand at getting girls into a get-nekkid headspace. ‘If I’m prepping a model for this kind of shoot and need to boost her confidence, I make sure she’s got a warm and cosy space to get ready in, a lovely soft robe to wear and a scented candle burning. In fact, everything has to feel good – beautiful smells and luxurious textures make for a much happier girl, and ultimately a far better shot.’ Ashley is a huge fan of rose, so try Diptyque Scented Candle in Baies (£36), which is pretty and comforting in equal measures. Shiffa Sweetness Body Lotion (£27.25) is deliciously uplifting, has a silky and undemanding texture, and somehow seems to tone and soothe all at the same time.

And now for some tough love. ‘The best prep of all is to get to the gym, do your work-out, then have a sauna and steam,’ advises Ashley. ‘It gets the blood pumping to the surface of the skin so it looks all glowy and toned. And try facial skincare on any bits that need special attention, like your décolleté.’ Ashley likes to treat this area with a gentle facial peel (especially if it seems dull or papery) and is currently raving about Artistry Intensive Skincare Renewing Peel, £60.25 (we’ve also seen make-up artists recoil in at the thought of attacking such delicate skin with a chunky body scrub – it’s the finest facial exfoliators or nothing, ladies). But for exfoliating elsewhere,  some of the most effective scrubs are as follows: Jo Malone Vitamin E Body Treatment Scrub (take a deep breath, it’s £68, but really is hard-working), Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliating Cream (£18.50) and L’Occitane Almond Delicious Paste (£25).
