What Something Purty Wore This Weekend

I went to a party this weekend. And an after-party, and an after-after-party. All told, that’s around 48 hours of bad behaviour yet somehow I looked fresher when I fell through the front door on Sunday night than when I’d skipped out of it on Friday afternoon. Here’s how…

Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask

Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask (£34) is a little piece of magic. Beware the convoluted instructions on the back of the bottle – big words in tiny writing do not make for an easy read when you’re six sheets to the wind at seven in the morning . But when you’ve whittled down the options on offer (leave on longer for deeper cleansing, remove with water OR tissue away depending on skin type etc etc) and asked everyone in the queue for the bathroom what ‘dissipation’ might look like, you’ve got some kind of wonderful in the palm of your hand – a cleanser (or face mask) that froths up into the softest blanket of foam and sucks every last bit of dirt out of your wretched skin. And rather than leaving you stripped and dry, a smooth coating of protective and hydrating agents traps moisture in and keeps all the bad stuff out, leaving you free to go bury your face in another ashtray/pint of cava/corner of the kitchen floor with impunity.

Decléor Neroli Night Balm

Decléor Neroli Essential Night Balm (£30.50) is something you might want to apply afterwards. It’s a compact little pot of purifying and radiance-restoring balm that smells glorious, melts into your skin and leaves it looking pink, healthy, clear and glowing. Ideally you’d use this just before bed. In the absence of a bed I used it on the dance floor. It worked so well that I’m considering knocking sleep on the head altogether, just til January.

Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath & Shower Oil

And finally, it pains me to admit that when I did eventually get to sleep, it wasn’t in my own bed but squished in someone else’s living room between a floor cushion and a large stuffed horse named Derek. I couldn’t have done it without Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath & Shower Oil (£34.75) which is such a knock-out of a product the brand also offers a lighter alternative for people who want to wind down in the evening without feeling utterly pole-axed. You’d bathe or shower in this for full effect but I just put a few drops in a sink of warm water and breathed deeply over the top. It’s instant Valium, and I urge you to have a bottle in your bathroom cabinet always.
